{"id":34290,"date":"2022-01-19T21:28:05","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T21:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bournemouthtoday.com\/?p=34290"},"modified":"2022-01-19T21:28:05","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T21:28:05","slug":"whitecliff-walking-and-cycling-improvements-given-the-go-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/whitecliff-walking-and-cycling-improvements-given-the-go-ahead\/","title":{"rendered":"Whitecliff walking and cycling improvements given the go ahead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A route for cyclists and pedestrians in Poole will benefit from major improvements this year.<\/p>\n<p>The busy waterside path from Turks Lane to the sluice gate at Whitecliff will be widened to create a safer and separated cycleway and footpath.<\/p>\n<p>Last year BCP Council ran a public consultation on plans to create a safer environment for those cycling or walking this route. Over three-quarters of respondents agreed with the improvements. <\/p>\n<p>The council listened to views expressed and has amended the positioning of the cycle route and the nature of the separation with the footpath.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the project has now been received, <a href=\"https:\/\/haveyoursay.bcpcouncil.gov.uk\/whitecliff\">with work beginning this spring.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Councillor Mike Greene, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability said: \u201cThe large response from residents shows that they welcome an easier and safer route through this beautiful stretch of Poole\u2019s waterside, and I am delighted that it will be improved this summer.<\/p>\n<p>This is only part one of the sustainable travel plans we have for this area. We\u2019re also working to secure funding approval for a second phase of improvements, which will continue through to Baiter Park and link with the wider cycle network and towards the town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>National Cycle Routes 2 and 25 both run along sections of the BCP area\u2019s coastline.
