{"id":12617,"date":"2020-02-03T12:09:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-03T12:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/verwoodtoday.co.uk\/?p=12617"},"modified":"2020-02-03T12:09:00","modified_gmt":"2020-02-03T12:09:00","slug":"emmanuel-artwork-features-in-national-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/emmanuel-artwork-features-in-national-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Emmanuel artwork features in national exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A memorial flame created by children at Emmanuel CE Middle School was one of just 75 pieces of art selected to feature in a national exhibition.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The artwork, made as a lasting memorial for the millions of Holocaust victims, was unveiled in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at a special launch in London.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, year six pupils took part in special English, Art, History and Food workshops to produce work that related to the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/verwoodtoday.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Screenshot-2020-02-03-11.56.28.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"298\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12619\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Headteacher, Rob Christopher, said: \u201cWe were incredibly honoured to have our children\u2019s work of art featured in this very poignant exhibition. It\u2019s so important that young people today learn about the horrors of the Holocaust so such genocide is hopefully never repeated again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur pupils have been incredibly touched by the stories they have heard and this has been perfectly portrayed in all of the moving work they have produced.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel was one of 300 groups from across the country registered to take part in the nationwide competition launched by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT).<\/p>\n<p>The competition was held to encourage more people to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel\u2019s winning piece of work came about after students discussed how the Nazis tried to take Jewish people\u2019s identities away from them, yet through all the horrors they stood together. <\/p>\n<p>The children\u2019s Memorial Flame emerges from the world, like a phoenix from the ashes, and is surrounded by figures standing together. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/verwoodtoday.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/EP2VEVmXkAAkAZs.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1365\" height=\"2048\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12620\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Head of Art, Kerry Thomson, who travelled to London for the Holocaust Memorial Day service and exhibition launch, said: \u201cThe service, which was televised on BBC2, was incredibly moving and the exhibition pieces were powerfully curated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CEO of Wimborne Academy Trust, Liz West, added: \u201cEveryone at the Trust is incredibly proud of Emmanuel for being chosen to be part of these national commemorations for the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of our 12 schools stopped to remember and mark this important anniversary, including a Holocaust survivor speaking to Queen Elizabeth\u2019s School students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will always remember and educate our young people about the Holocaust.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A memorial flame created by children at Emmanuel CE Middle School was one of just 75 pieces of art selected to feature in a national exhibition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":12618,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[13],"class_list":["post-12617","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-verwood","tag-emmanuel-ce-middle-school"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12617","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=12617"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/12617\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=12617"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=12617"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/news.bournemouthone.com\/test\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=12617"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
