Back to the Future The Musical is coming to the south coast after a long run in London’s West End, as part of its first ever UK tour in 2027.
The stage version of the film classic runs from Tuesday 8 June to Saturday 3 July, giving local audiences the chance to see the Olivier Award-winning production outside of London for the first time.
The show continues its run at the Adelphi Theatre in the West End, where it is now in its fifth year and has been seen by more than two million people.
It has also broken box office records and is playing internationally in North America, Japan and on Royal Caribbean Cruises, with further productions set for Australia and Germany. In total, more than four million people worldwide have seen the musical.
The south coast dates mean residents in Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and east Dorset will be able to travel to Southampton to enjoy the production.
Producer Colin Ingram said he was delighted to be taking the production on the road. He added: “Audiences are going to have such a fun and thrilling ride in a show which will tour in all its glory and be one of the biggest sets to come out on the road.”
Based on the 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, the musical features a book by Bob Gale and new music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, alongside songs from the film including The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode.
The creative team includes Tony Award-winning director John Rando and Olivier Award-winning set and costume designer Tim Hatley. Lighting, sound, video and choreography are provided by an award-winning team of theatre specialists, with casting led by David Grindrod CDG.
Tickets for the Mayflower Theatre dates go on general sale from Friday 19 September this year.
