An electric vehicle charging company from the Netherlands has chosen east Dorset as the location for its first fast charging station in the UK.
Leap 24 officially opened the facility in Verwood yesterday, with co-founder Pelle Schlichting flying in especially for the event.
Verwood Town councillor Toni Coombes did the first ‘plug in’ at the EV charger on Cheviot Way, and said: “I hope it’s good for Verwood and I hope it’s good for the company. It is great that Leap 24 has chosen this area as usually people haven’t heard of the town!”
Pelle told us it’s the first of many planned for the country: “The UK will be our primary market very soon. We have ambitions for around 500 locations long term but we have to start somewhere and it just happened to be in Verwood.”
The charging ‘shop’ is located near Morrisons, on a quiet residential cul-de-sac and contains two CCS connections with speeds of up to 180 kW.
