MP Vikki Slade to continue her role as BCP Council leader

BCP Council Leader and newly elected MP Vikki Slade says its business as usual today as she spends the first week in her new job at Westminster.

The Liberal Democrat politician, who was elected MP for Mid Dorset and North Poole on Friday, tells Bournemouth One she has no current plans to give up her position at the Council, and her deputy, Millie Earl, will be holding the fort.

She said: “There’s conversations to be had about how we look forward to a transition, which roles we need to be thinking about, but for now nothing changes, it’s business as usual, I’ve got a fantastic deputy leader and she’ll be standing in when I’m busy doing other things.”

Bournemouth turned Red for the first time last week, as Labour MPs Tom Hayes and Jessica Toale secured majority votes over Conservative MPs Tobias Ellwood and Sir Conor Burns.

Poole’s new MP is Labour’s Neil Duncan-Jordan after several recounts with just 18 votes between himself and Conservative candidate Sir Robert Syms.

Sir Christopher Chope has been returned as the Conservative MP for Christchurch with a majority of 7,455.
