Beacons to be lit as Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole mark D-Day’s 80th anniversary

Beacons will be lit in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole tonight to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings.

The BCP area played a pivotal role in the campaign.

In Poole, local companies were instrumental in supplying the boats and associated materials needed.

The town was also the third largest embarkation point for the Normandy landings.

Thousands of troops set sail from the harbour, bound for the beaches of Northern France, 80 years ago.
