Verwood’s only fixed speed camera has been upgraded to enable it to take digital photos.
The device, on the B3081 Ringwood Road near Newtown Road, will now use 4G (and 5G in the future) to send photos digitally to the Police rather than taking photos that need to be transferred manually.
It is estimated the cost of the change is £20,000, with 30 sites around Dorset also being upgraded by the Dorset Road Safe partnership, made up of Dorset Police, BCP and Dorset councils and Highways England.
The new cameras do not require white lines on the road to track speed, and mobile camera vans will continue to be used around Verwood.
