Southbourne event to mark Armed Forces

Southbourne will host an Armed Forces Weekender after a vintage festival changes plans this year.

The Shake and Stir Vintage Music Festival is being transformed by Stir Events CIC into a weekend dedicated to serving personnel, families, veterans and cadets, taking place in Southbourne on 27 and 28 June.

A road closure is expected on Southbourne Grove on the morning of 27 June for a parade of military representatives, reservists, cadets and veterans, led by the Christchurch band of the Royal British Legion.

A programme of vintage music from the 1940s to the 1960s will be performed at Fisherman’s Walk bandstand by live bands and soloists, alongside armed forces charities, support organisations, memorabilia stalls and a history hub.

Mandy Polkey from Stir Events CIC said transforming the festival into an Armed Forces Weekender felt like the right way to celebrate those who serve while creating something for the whole town.
