Bournemouth University students create animated short film for cinemas across the UK
An award-winning animated short by Bournemouth University students is currently being shown in cinemas nationwide.
The Lab, a final-year project by four students from the university’s National Centre for Computer Animation, is screening alongside the feature film Away. The short follows an eccentric scientist working on her latest creation and was made by an all-female team: Izzy Livesey, Kitty Smith, Shelly Ferrerosa Alves, and Livvy Cook.
“It’s an incredible achievement,” said director Izzy Livesey. “Seeing The Lab on the big screen is a surreal and rewarding experience.”
Since graduating, the team has showcased The Lab at festivals, winning awards including ‘Best Animation’ at the Bradford International Film Festival and the Earl’s Court Film Festival. They are now pursuing careers in animation, building portfolios, and gaining industry experience.
Livesey credited Bournemouth University’s facilities and industry connections for shaping their success.
The Lab has been screening before Away in Bournemouth and across the UK since 14 March.
