Milestone reached as first patients are cared for at Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s new BEACH Building

Royal Bournemouth Hospital is marking a major milestone with the radiology team seeing the first patients in the new BEACH building.

CT and X-ray services for the hospital’s Emergency Department as well as some inpatients have moved to the new facilities.

Critical care and maternity services are due to relocate later this month.

The new six-storey building is the size of 115 tennis courts and known as the ‘BEACH’ for Birth, Emergency, Critical Care and Children’s Health Department.

It will provide new purpose-built maternity and children’s units, an improved major emergency department and one of the biggest critical care units in the country.

The building forms part of a £500 million investment in local health services.

The Royal Bournemouth Hospital will become a major emergency centre while Poole Hospital will be the biggest major planned care centre in the UK.
