Dorset has been named as one of the top three counties where people aged over 65 would like to move to.
Twenty one per cent chose our county in a poll of 1,000 people aged 65+ commissioned by McCarthy Stone, the developer and manager of retirement communities.
Devon and Cornwall were just ahead, at 24 and 23 per cent respectively.
Respondents chose Dorset for its mix of coast and country along with cultural heritage and transport links.
Kim Caldwell, National Sales & Marketing Director at McCarthy Stone, said: “While Bournemouth has long been associated with retirement in Dorset, we’re seeing smaller market towns such as Wimborne growing in popularity.
“There’s little wonder why Wimborne has been voted the number one place to live in Dorset, thanks to its superb position just a stone’s throw away from gorgeous walks, whether in the countryside or a short drive to the sea.
“That’s why we picked Wimborne to build The Old Market Village – our newest retirement community in the UK, which has just won ‘Best Retirement Scheme’ at the 2024 Housebuilder Awards.”
The survey was conducted by A to G in September.
