Ringwood Road will be closed from Monday 6th January for up to seven weeks as Wessex Water repairs a collapsed sewer.
The closure will take place between the entrance to the double roundabout junction with Mannings Heath Road to outside the Volvo Cars Poole dealership.
Traffic will be diverted via Ringwood Road, B3061 (Old Wareham Road) and the A3049 (Dorset Way).
And even though the closure is for urgent repairs, BCP Council teams will be using the road closure to carry out planned works that would otherwise have required temporary signals later in the year to reduce further disruption.
Councillor Andy Hadley, Portfolio Holder for Climate Response, Environment and Energy at BCP Council, said: “We know that well maintained roads are important to our residents, alongside reliable water, gas and electricity services.
“To maintain these underground services and our roads and footways, regular maintenance and improvement is necessary, and sometimes urgent repairs unavoidable.
“Whilst we understand the disruption to traffic that urgent roadworks such as this cause, keeping the road network flowing is our priority and planned works are always carefully assessed and scheduled.
“We advise residents to prepare by checking their route before setting off and leaving plenty of time and to follow the signage and diversion routes.”
