Plug pulled on New Year’s Day Poole Bathtub Race and Classic Car event due to bad weather forecast

Forecasts of strong winds and heavy rain have scuppered the New Year’s Day Poole Bathtub Race.

Organisers Poole Harbour Commissioners and BCP Council has also confirmed that tomorrow’s Classic Car on the Quay event featuring up to 100 vehicles has also been cancelled.

Both events normally attract thousands of people to the Quay.

In a statement on Facebook, Poole BID said: “We have had confirmation from Poole Harbour Commissioners and BCP Council, who organise the New Year’s Day Bath Tub & Classic Car event, that after further discussions with Poole Harbour Master and the RNLI, it has sadly been decreed unsafe for not only the Bath Tub Race but also the Classic Car event to go ahead tomorrow due to heavy rain and gale force winds.

“Everyone involved with this event is disappointed yet safety has to be the priority.”
