Twelve lucky children enjoyed a fascinating day at a Dorset golf course thanks to Variety the Children’s Charity.
The novice golfers from Bethany Junior School in Boscombe were treated to an experience to remember at Remedy Oak Golf Club at Horton.
The morning started with a walk round part of the course with the club’s head professional Dominic Knight acting as guide.
He explained the roles of fairways, roughs, greens and bunkers while pausing to watch golfers tee off and also watch groundsmen clear leaves and spray fertiliser on the grass.
Then it was time to learn some golfing skills on the driving range.
Dominic demonstrated how to swing a golf club to successfully send a ball flying with each child then getting a go.
The visit was rounded off with a sandwich lunch and chips in the club’s restaurant.
Club member Peter Jenkins, who organised the event on behalf of Variety Wessex, said: “It’s been a pleasure to watch these children enjoying their experiences here at Remedy Oak.
“They have been so well behaved and we have all had a fantastic time.”
Frances Cornelius, Chair of Variety Wessex, said: “Thank you everyone at Remedy Oak Golf Club for giving these children such a wonderful day, particularly Dominic for the individual tuition each child received and the fantastic experience of seeing, at first hand, such an impressive golf course, and on such a gorgeous sunny day.
“Thank you Peter for organising this wonderful day and thank you, too, Phil our Laguna driver who manoeuvred the coach so expertly down the narrow lanes and long driveway to the club.”
The day was part of the Variety the Children’s Charity Great Day’s Scheme that aims to give disadvantaged children positive memories.
