Christchurch Town Council names charity partner for Christmas Lights Switch On event

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity has been named as the Charity Partner for Christchurch’s Christmas Lights Switch On 2024.

All funds raised at the event, taking place on Saturday 23rd November, will go towards the future Emergency Department and Children’s Health Department in the new BEACH Building at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

Christchurch town centre will be transformed into a festive wonderland from 11am to 7pm, with the lights switch-on happening at 5pm.

The Council says: “From live music featuring headline acts, local bands, and choirs showcasing Christchurch’s local talent, to the ever-popular Hush Club Disco bringing high-energy party vibes to the High Street, the day promises something for everyone.”

There’ll also be food traders and local charities throughout the High Street and Saxon Square whilst an array of acts will perform for visitors of all ages throughout the day.

In addition, the Priory Church and Druitt Hall will both be holding a Christmas Gifts and crafts market.

James Atkinson, Acting Town Clerk, said: “Christchurch Town Council is thrilled to partner with UHD NHS Charity for this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On and invites everyone to attend this fantastic festive celebration.

“By coming together as a community, we can spread holiday cheer while supporting an incredible cause.”

University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity fundraising manager, Jess Tyler said: “To be a part of such a popular event in Christchurch like this is amazing.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from everyone at Christchurch Town Council for The BEACH Appeal. What better way to do it than by helping us ‘sleigh’ our fundraising goals with this year’s beautiful lights!

The Town Council is working with ORA Events Ltd this year on the event.
