New report highlights urgent need for improved health and social care for the homeless

A new report has highlighted the challenges faced by homeless people when trying to access health and social care services.

HealthWatch Dorset says its findings reveal a troubling landscape of exclusion and hardship.

The report – ‘Voiceless, Unheard and Socially Excluded ‘ – says immense challenges are faced by people experiencing homelessness and those who are vulnerably housed.

It highlights not only the systemic barriers that hinder access to essential services but also the complex and often harsh realities these individuals endure in their daily lives.

The HealthBus Trust, an award-winning charity, continues to provide critical healthcare services directly to people experiencing homelessness.

It stands as a vital link between the streets and mainstream services.

Christopher Wakefield, HealthBus Chairman, said: “By delivering care at the point of need, HealthBus is committed to ensuring that those who are most vulnerable receive the attention and support they deserve.

“We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this report, especially our patients, whose open and honest conversations made this possible.

“We hope this report will serve as a catalyst for significant improvements in how health and social care services are delivered to those in need.”

HealthBus Executive Director, Deano Pickering, said: “This report serves as a crucial wake-up call to the health sector across Dorset.

“Immediate action is essential to drive systemic change and enhance access for vulnerable patients, ensuring that health equity is achieved across all sectors of our community.”
