Boeing 737 being pulled in charity event at Bournemouth Airport

Over 400 people are taking part in a charity plane pull at Bournemouth Airport today – and you can watch for free.

21 teams are taking part in the event, raising money for 15 local organisations, as they all attempt to pull a 35,000kg Boeing 737 a distance of 50 metres.

Since its inception in 2009 the event has raised over £304,000 for a variety of charities including locally based Helpful Hounds, Julia’s House, John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation and Forest Holme Hospice.

Spectators are welcome to watch for free, and there’ll be entertainment for kids, along with food, drink and charity stalls from 10am.

“We are delighted to see the return of many regular charities as well as some new comers. Over 400 people are raring to go and take on this unique challenge” says Richard Griffin, Founder & Operations Manager.

Trophies will be awarded to the team with the Best fancy dress, Best team name and the Fastest pull time. The 2023 winning time of 28.50 seconds going to the aptly named team ‘Receding Airline’.

National and local businesses have committed to support the day with the Boeing 737 being provided by local aviation firm European Aviation.

Activities for younger visitors includes shows by a variety of entertainers, face-painting, inflatable fun and new for this year a science experiment tent.

If you are free today, Monday 26th August, head to European Aviation, Aviation Business Park, Bournemouth Airport to show your support.
