Shopping centre boss says offering attractions other than just retail is helping to buck the trend

The boss of The Dolphin shopping centre in Poole says offering attractions other than just retail is helping it to buck the downward trend seen in many town centres.

John Grinnell, Centre Manager, was speaking after household and garden retailer wilko returned to The Dolphin with its new concept store.

Hundreds queued for the opening with some waiting patiently in line for up to two hours.

The 23,500 sq ft store also features an Iceland concession.

John, pictured, told Bournemouth One: “Our owners, Legal & General, are really keen on reimagining space, bringing in some great attractions like Dolphin Street Food and we’ve got Foundry co-working space.

“It just adds to all the extra attractions, other than retail.

“That’s why we are really attracting new customers.

“When you get wilkos opening like this, it’s just brilliant.”
