Appeal for information after reported assault leaves man with a broken jaw

Officers investigating a reported assault in Verwood that left a man with a broken jaw are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 12.54pm on Saturday, 27 July, that a man aged in his 30s had been assaulted in the gravel car park at Verwood Town Football Club in Potterne Way, near to Verwood Day Nursery.

It was reported that the victim had been involved in a verbal dispute with another man, who then proceeded to punch him in the face, causing two fractures to his jaw and damaging his glasses.

Following enquiries, a man aged in his 30s from West Parley was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage. He has been released under investigation as officers carry out further enquiries.

Sergeant Ben Turner, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“I would also like to appeal to any motorists with dashcam footage who were in the car park around the relevant time to please check their footage to see if they have captured anything to assist our enquiries.”
