Facebook LIVE event to address community safety concerns in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole

Representatives from Dorset Police, BCP Council and the Police & Crime Commissioner will answer questions about safety in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole in a Facebook LIVE online public meeting today.

They’ll be live on the platform between 6pm and 7pm to discuss what steps are being taken collectively to keep the public safe in the area.

The event is being held online to give the greatest number of people the opportunity to join in, with a recording available for those who can’t watch it live.

It comes after public concern over recent incidents in the area.

Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey, BCP LPA Commander, said: “During this Facebook LIVE event we’ll be talking about how we’re continuing to work together as a partnership to ensure we can meet the increased demands on our services over the summer so Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole can be a safe place to live and visit.

“We will also be able to talk about the joint operations we will be running to increase our visibility to the public and answer any questions you may have during the session.”

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick said: “I fully recognise that following the recent tragic incident in Bournemouth concerns about safety have been heightened.

“The incident sent shockwaves across the area and my thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Amie Gray and the woman who was seriously injured.

“It is imperative that residents and communities have the opportunity to express their concerns and be heard by all of the relevant agencies responsible for community safety in the BCP area.

“Keeping the public safe is of the utmost importance and I hope this event will answer some of the questions the public have, provide some vital reassurance around the work taking place by all partners across BCP, and update residents on the crucial next steps.”

Sophie Sajic, Head of Public Protection at BCP Council, said: “We would like to reassure the public that we continue to work closely with Dorset Police with an enhanced high visibility CSAS presence in Bournemouth town centre.

“Facebook LIVE is an opportunity for us to listen to the concerns of local people and to provide reassure of the work we are continuing to do alongside Dorset Police this summer to ensure Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is area that everyone can enjoy safely.”

The event can be followed via the live stream on the Dorset Police, Bournemouth Police, BCP Council and PCC Facebook pages where there will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Anyone who does not have access is encouraged to visit the Dorset Police YouTube account where the live event can be accessed without needing an account.
