A hospital trust has described a case where a baby was handed to the wrong mother as an “isolated incident”.
It happened at Poole Hospital’s maternity unit last September.
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is carrying out an investigation.
In a statement the trust said the safety of parents and babies has the highest priority and it deeply regrets any distress caused.
A full review of safety procedures has been carried out and the trust wanted to reassure people that it was an isolated incident.
