Poole Town FC has released a statement saying a new site has been found but falls short of providing the location.
The club says it has been in discussions over the potential area for six years, and was told in 2022 it was no longer available.
However, following further talks with BCP Council, it is now back on the cards as part of a larger community and recreation use facility in the emerging BCP Local Plan.
All we know so far on the record is that the site is within the Poole boundaries.
The Dolphins currently play at the BlackGold Stadium at Tatnam Farm, having left Poole Stadium in the mid-90s.
The Board of Directors say: “We appreciate that there will be many questions raised from this statement and they will be answered in due course. Being part of the Local Plan, our scheme is one part of a larger puzzle that needs to come together to make sure it is deliverable.
“As such it involves other landowner and businesses which may affect the people they employ which is why confidentiality clauses and discretion is required in releasing detailed information ahead of when it is appropriate to do so.
“We are chomping at the bit to reveal what is coming together but timing in these matters is crucial. The scheme is large and ambitious but will be of such value to the area that it is an opportunity that the Council we feel will not want to miss.
“There do remain of course many further issues to address which make it difficult to be specific about a time frame but ultimately we could have a permanent, sustainable home for the Club for the first time in its history.
“We are hoping to have a high-level meeting with a number of the key departments of the Council shortly to get answers to the legal questions referred to above at which time we will put out a further statement confirming the outcome and the proposed next steps.”
