More children get their first choice on National Secondary School Offer Day

Ninety six per cent of children due to start secondary school in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole this September have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools.

Of this figure, some 86 per cent have received their first preference.

BCP Council shared the outcome of this year’s school applications with parents and carers today on what is National Offer Day.

A total of 3,854 families living in the BCP area applied for a secondary school place before the deadline of 31 October 2023.

All children of parents and carers who applied by the national deadline have been offered a place for this September.

Parents and carers who applied online were able to log on from 10am today to view their school offer.

Offer letters will be sent to all parents who applied before the closing date.

Councillor Richard Burton, Portfolio Holder for Children and Young people, BCP Council said: “Choosing the right school is one of those important decisions that families make.

“I am pleased that we have been able to offer an increasingly higher percentage of families one of their preferred secondary schools for their children to attend from September.

“This is an increase on offers from last year.

“We also recognise that some families may have questions regarding their child’s placement, and I would encourage them to contact the BCP Council School Admissions Team for help and advice.”

Families living in Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole seeking information about school vacancies and options available, should contact the Admissions Team on 01202 123222 or 01202 127963.
