Five fans arrested at AFC Bournemouth v Newcastle United match

Five Newcastle United fans are due to appear in court charged in connection with a reported pitch encroachment at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday 16 March 2019 during AFC Bournemouth’s home game against Newcastle.

It is alleged one female steward sustained an injury to her nose during the reported incident. Enquiries are underway to ascertain whether an assault took place.

Six men and a 14-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of going onto the playing area at a football match from the away supporters stand. Five of the men were also arrested on suspicion of assault.

An 18-year-old man from Newcastle, 29-year-old man from Berwick-upon-Tweed, 31-year-old man from Alnwick, Northumberland, and a 40-year-old man from Newcastle have been charged with going onto the playing area at a football match and are due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 2 April 2019. They have been released under investigation in relation to the assault charge.

A 24-year-old man from Andover in Hampshire has been charged with going onto the playing area at a football match and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 2 April 2019.

A 14-year-old boy from Bournemouth who was arrested on suspicion of going onto the playing area at a football match has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

An 18-year-old man from Durham who was arrested on suspicion of going onto the playing area at a football match and assault was released without charge.
