Verwood House residents make festive decorations for homeless

Creative residents at a Verwood care home have handed over home-made Christmas wreaths to the homeless.

The festive door decorations have been presented to Second Chance, a charity run by volunteers to help vulnerable people across Dorset. They will be given to those most in need.

Residents at Verwood House, Ringwood Road, decided to help the charity when they heard about the good work of Second Chance does reaching out to those less fortunate.

The charity was established in 2018 to support rough sleepers wanting to find accommodation.

Local resident Shelley Rose set up Second Chance and is now Chairwoman of the charity and Coordinator at Verwood Community Support Group.

She said: “We are so grateful for your kind donation; they will add a little Christmas sparkle to local community.”

Verwood resident Audrey Jones, aged 86, had a great time making her wreath enjoying choosing the decorations to use.

She said: “It is nice to support the local community and contribute with making decorations.”

Verwood’s Home Manager Rachelle Phillips said: “We are always busy here at Verwood House and we have had such joy making the wreaths.

“To hand them over to people who will really enjoy them makes this extra special. Thank you to Shelley and her team for helping those most in need and for their commitment to this task, giving people a second chance to get back on their feet.”
