Verwood residents to retain free access to Somerley tip

Dorset Council has reminded residents of Verwood that they can continue using the Somerley Household and Waste Recycling Centre free of charge without needing to register their vehicle.

Concern was raised after Hampshire Council, operators of the centre, asked Hampshire residents to register their vehicles in order to continue using the facility for free.

Hampshire residents failing to register will be charged £5 per visit.

In a statement, Dorset Council said: “We would like to reassure residents that they can continue to use Somerley HRC free of charge following an agreement between Dorset Council and Hampshire County Council (HCC). Residents do not need to register their vehicles or take further action.”

The agreement between Dorset and Hampshire councils was made in November last year and is in place for the foreseeable future, with further news expected in ‘Spring 2020’.
